Read Across America & Dr. Seuss’ Birthday Celebrations at SLES

As you can see from the NEA Read Across America video, Bella’s Story, it is important to develop a love of learning at an early age.  Our schools work hard to develop this interest…and have some fun while doing so!

As a classroom teacher, I also loved helping my students develop a love of learning.  I too celebrated literacy in a variety of ways, for a variety of learners.  And then, I learned about dyslexia.  I learned that most classrooms do not support the dyslexic learner in the way they really need to be supported to foster and develop that love of reading.  So, I chose to do something different!

Have time work better for you through our Seeing My Time courses

The Sklar Process

A Time Management Class for Individuals & Families

Do you or your child struggle with time management or keeping your papers organized?  Is it difficult to estimate how long a project is going to take?  Does your child wait until the last minute to get started on tasks?  Does time seem like some concept that is not recognized?

Take our Seeing My Time class to get a solid understanding of the maturation of the brain’s function in these areas.  Get real tools to help manage the household’s time and to help your child manage their time more efficiently.  Take the nagging out of parenting!  Place the decision making and accountability in your child’s corner.

Dyslexia Simulation

“Walk a Mile in My Shoes”

Whether you are a parent or a teacher, this event is for you.

This interactive session will immerse you in the sights and sounds and the tactile challenges of a student with dyslexia through full audience participation in 5 separate activities. Everyone will play an active part in each of the learning scenarios.

Following the introduction the audience will be divided into groups and will rotate through the 5 activities; during the exercises each person will experience first-hand the daily learning challenges facing the students who learn differently. The simulation will be followed by a brief overview of dyslexia.
