The Writing Connection

Introduction

Sometimes you know that a meeting is just meant to be.  When you have a passion for helping students read and write.  When you are looking for just the right reading materials for struggling readers.  When you have a drive to find the “Just Right” text that they can read. When you want to share that motivating drive to get kids reading and you find someone else that shares that passion.

That is how I feel about meeting author Yasmin John-Thorpe last November in Green Valley, Arizona.

Ongoing training broadens Successful Learning’s knowledge

Our primary work at Successful Learning Educational Services is serving students with dyslexia.  However, some students have challenges beyond their primary disability, issues which even further impact their ability to learn. These can include conditions such as ADHD, anxiety disorders, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia. We’ve also found that several of our students struggle due to sensory integration difficulties, or may need additional occupational therapy support.

While SLES staff is already very knowledgeable in these areas, we also believe that a broad-based, continuing education for all our staff is vital to providing the best service to our clients. To support this, we invite top learning and education professionals to provide staff training, and on January 9th of this year we were pleased to have with us Sharron Donnelly (MS, OTR/L), co-founder and owner of Advanced Pediatric Therapies, to help deepen our understanding of the intersecting of these issues, and to further explore potential remedies.
