"…perhaps Dyslexia may be playing a part"

Home The Successful Learning Blog "…perhaps Dyslexia may be playing a part"

My wife and I are the proud parents of an 11yr old who in many ways is a very normal happy young boy. Unfortunately Bryan suffers from ADHD, diagnosed at age 3 and has been on various medications since that time.

We knew we had challenges ahead of us, but were not prepared for the academic process which engulfed Bryan from Kindergarten through 4th grade. During this time period, despite IEP plans and substantial parental involvement, it was clear to us that Bryan could barely read at the first grade level and was constrained to a structured learning center environment which we strongly felt he did not belong in.

As Bryan, who could barely read at the first grade level was being “promoted” from 4th to 5th grade and moving to a middle school, we pursued additional rationale to explain why Bryan was having so much difficulty reading, and having discussed that perhaps Dyslexia may be playing a part, we came into contact with Cheryl Anthony at Successful Learning which has proven to be a watershed day for Bryan’s future. Cheryl has not only successfully diagnosed Bryan with severe Dyslexia, she has taken Bryan on as a tutored pupil. In 7 short months, Bryan’s reading has substantially improved (perhaps now at beginning 3rd grade level) and almost as importantly Bryan is developing more confidence in himself which will greatly help to minimize to potential risks he faces in the future with being diagnosed with both ADHD and Dyslexia.

Most all of know that the gateway to any child’s future, as well as the quality of their lives, depends in large part in their being able to effectively read, write and spell.

We cannot think of an educator other than Cheryl who has had any greater positive impact on the current educational status of our son. We can begin to look to a future for Bryan where he will be able to develop without the limiting factors of a substandard education resulting from his disabilities and a school system that is not prepared or trained to deal with his various physical challenges. They talk well, write good IEPs, but are ineffective in obtaining results.

If you have a child that is experiencing reading difficulties of any type, we can wholeheartedly recommend Cheryl Anthony to diagnose your child and provide effective feedback and options.
